Cru Classé 2014

95-96/100 Vert de Vin
“The nose is elegant, aromatic, fine, racy and offers precision. It reveals notes of ripe cassis, wild strawberry and small notes of wild small fruits associated with fine touches of toasted, tea as well as very discreet hints of flowers (violet, cornflower), gravels (terroir) as well as a subtle hint of cardamom/pepper and a very discreet hint of nutmeg. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a mineral/acidulous frame, generosity/richiness, a good definition, precision, tension, a juicy/fresh fruit, freshness as well as a very discreetly tight grain. On the palate this wine expresses notes of fleshy/juicy cassis, fleshy/juicy raspberry and small notes of wild strawberry associated with fine touches of fleshy/juicy blueberry, fine hints of flowers, tea, sweet spices, a subtle hint of Timut pepper (in the background) and an imperceptible hint of underwood (in the background). Tannins are elegant, precise, structuring and offer a small straightness. Beautiful persistence ! “

95/100 James Suckling
”A very classical St. Julien that’s got good concentration and real elegance, too. Great black fruits on the nose with subtle oak, and the richness and dry tannins are balanced out beautifully. You could drink it now, but this will age beautifully.”

94/100 Vinous
“The 2014 Beychevelle is dark, ample and yet also quite nuanced. Blue and purplish stone fruits, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice notes abound in this super-expressive Saint-Julien. There is lovely freshness and vivacity to the flavors, but this is a pretty intense, succulent style. Tasted two times.”

93-94/100 Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
“This is a beauty. This wine possesses ample depth and intensity, setting a new standard of quality for Beychevelle. Dense, long and voluptuous, arousing the senses with a sweet kiss of sun-warmed currants and dark chocolate, this is by far the most concentrated, supple wine that the estate has ever produced. The finish really lingers with its layers of fruit. With 51% Merlot in the blend, it’s the highest percentage of Merlot used in the history of the estate. That is paired with 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine reached 14.05% alcohol with a pH of 3.64. The Grand Vin represents 68% of the crop. 93 – 94 Pts”

93/100 Wine Enthusiast
“This is already a delicious wine in the balanced Saint-Julien style. Smooth and ripe, it is fruity with a structure that promises medium-term aging. The rich aftertaste shows both the promise and the pleasure of the wine.”
